12th Meeting of FEMBoSA , hosted by Nepal in Kathmandu on 4th & 5th September, 2024
As per the Thimpu Resolution of FEMBoSA , Nepal hosted the 12th Meeting of the Forum at Kathmandu on 4th & 5th September, 2024. The two day conference was formally inaugurated by the Right Hon'ble Prime Minister of Nepal, Mr K.P.Sharma Oli in the presence of national and international dignitaries. The chief Election Commissioner, Election Commission, Nepal, Hon'ble Dinesh Kumar Thapaliya delivered the welcome address.
The conference was centred around the theme: "Emerging Trends in Election: Climate Change, Social Media & Elections" focusing on evolving dynamics influencing elections. Chief Election Commissioner, Election Commission of Bhutan, Hon'ble Dasho Sonam Topgay, Chairman of the Election Commission of the Maldives, Hon'ble Fuwad Thowfeek, Chairman of the Election Commission of Sri Lanka, Hon'ble R.M.A.L. Rathnayake and Senior Deputy Election Commissioner of the Election Commission of India, Hon'ble Nitesh Kumar Vyas delivered their inaugural remarks emphasizing the significance of the conference theme and reaffirming their commitment to fostering regional cooperation for upholding electoral integrity. Similarly, the national and international experts conducted technical sessions on pertinent issues: Climate Change, Migration, Social media and Artificial Intelligence. The sessions were instrumental for the review on the existing scenario and the way forward to the issues in relation to election management. The technical sessions were chaired by Election Commissioners of Election Commission, Nepal: Hon'ble Ram Prashad Bhandari, Hon'ble Dr. Janaki Kumari Tuladhar and Hon'ble Sagun Shumsher J.B.Rana respectively.
The conference concluded with the adoption of the 12-point Kathmandu Resolution expressing commitment to strengthen the institutional and human resource capacity through exchange of knowledge, related research reports; promote economic and environment friendly election management technology and process; minimize the risk and challenges in relation to use of Artificial Intelligence and social network platforms and to make electoral process inclusive and participatory.
