    Mr. Kazi Rakibuddin Ahmad took oath as the Chief Election Commissioner on 9ft Feb. 2012. A member of the erstwhile Civil Service of Pakistan, Mr. Ahmad retired in 2003 after providing 36 years of service to the Government of Pakistan and Government of Bangladesh. He served as Secretary to the Govt. of Bangladesh in Primary and Mass Education Division, M/O Information, M/O Education and later as Secretary to the Bangladesh Parliament. He served as elected Chairman of the Executive Council of Islamic Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ISESCO) and also as a Member of the Executive Council of United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO). He was Chairman, Bangladesh Chemical Industries Corporation; Chairman, Trading Corporation of Bangladesh and Director General NGO Affairs Bureau. He also served as Economic Minister in Bangladesh Embassy, Tokyo and as Joint Secretary in the Cabinet Division" He took part in the War of Independence of Bangladesh in 1971 as Sub Divisional Officer, Brahmanbaria and was Deputy Secretary and Zonal Administrative Officer under the First Bangladesh Government in Mujibnagar. He also served as the Deputy Commissioner of Comilla.

    Prior to joining the Civil Service, Mr. Ahmad served as a Lecturer in the Department of Chemistry, Dhaka University and after retirement from the Government Service, he taught in Bangladesh University and also worked as its Honorary Treasurer. Mr. Ahmad also worked as National and International Consultant providing consultancy services in different fields.

    Mr. Ahmad holds a MBA degree from Boston University, USA, a M.Sc. degree in Applied Industrial Chemistry and B.Sc. (Hons.) degree in Chemistry from Dhaka University, Bangladesh. As a Research Fellow in Harvard University Center for Population Studies, he worked on Population and Resource Development. He completed Investment Negotiation Course in the Law Center of the Institute of International and Foreign Trade Law, Georgetown University, USA. He is married and has two daughters.
